VOLUNTOURS

ICC Voluntours are a great way to see the impact of your dollar on the ground and the impact it has on the local community. It's also an incredible experience of another culture and country and a lot of fun too!

Four countries are currently available for Voluntours; Cambodia, the Philippines, Sri Lanka and Thailand. Trips generally run for two weeks and include a sight-seeing component as well as the work that you will do on the ground at ICC projects and partner projects. You will have an ICC Australia team member with you who works with local ICC staff and partners on the ground to make sure that your work on the project is purposeful for both the community and your team.

Many different skills are needed from building to teaching, mentoring to nursing. Just let us know where you think you can help and we will talk with our projects staff to find somewhere you can serve and help make a difference.

If you would like to know more about ICC Voluntours and how you can experience one for yourself, email tlawrence@iccaustralia.org.au or contact our office on 02 9987 1136.

What are Medical Voluntours?

ICC Medical Voluntours are a fantastic way to use your skills to help others in desperate need of medical attention. The trip generally lasts for around two weeks with at least a week of time working at the clinics or at other ICC projects in the area. The areas where Medical Voluntours are based are generally rural and extremely under-resourced in terms of medical equipment. There’s no access to western equipment such as pathology and no electricity in the villages. Most clinics are held in a school, temple or under a tree with around 200-500 people turning up each day to receive medical help. These trips are an absolute adventure and an incredible blessing to these communities.

How does a Medical Voluntour with ICC work?

In planning Medical Voluntours, ICC Australia works with local partners on the ground to prearrange visits with the assigned villages, purchase needed medications for the clinic and obtain hospitalisation for urgent cases uncovered at the clinic. All accommodation, food and in-country transport is arranged by ICC Australia by the time you are on the trip as well as tourist visits to key cultural sites. After the trip has finished, ICC works to follow up on problems encountered at the clinic and seeks to assist those in urgent need of medical care.

What sort of medical conditions are seen at the clinics?

The impoverished communities we work in are some of the poorest on earth. Patients coming to our clinics for treatment, typically have medical presentations that include; malnourishment, skin diseases, motor bike accident injuries, intestinal problems due to worms and parasites, pre and post natal care issues, general coughs, colds and flu, dental problems, general aches and pains from years of working in the fields, malaria, dengue fever and tropical diseases rarely seen in Australia.

The people who are treated at these clinics come to the clinic because it is their only opportunity to get medical help.
