Lack of good food leads to poor nutrition, stunted physical growth, low immunity, susceptibility to disease and death.

Our communities receive training in best practice agriculture, in the areas of: crops, market gardens, orchads, organics, composting, mulching, soil conservation, water containment, dry season management, reforestation and marketing of their goods.

This not only equips them to become self-sufficient in producing wholesome, nutritious food all year round, year after year; it also teaches them to care for their land.

Agriculture Program specific to Cambodia

During the rice planting and harvesting seasons, the children have used their agricultural skills to help local villagers plant and harvest their rice paddies. This is greatly appreciated by the local community and helps make a difference in the lives of many people.

Each home has its own vegetable garden where all children in the home help in some way. Some of the crops that the families grow are okra, beans and pineapple, water greens, winter melons, sweet potato and mandioc.

There are also fruit trees, such as papaya and banana plants at each home. These crops provide food for the families, with the excess being sold in the local market, allowing each home a small amount of spending money to use on an annual family holiday.

There is also a significant amount of land dedicated to large agricultural crops and plantations, which include mangoes, sesame, sugar cane, sweet potatoes, soy beans and lemon grass.

All of the children who are old enough participate in the agricultural program by planting, harvesting, watering with watering cans, weeding and maintaining crops.
