ICC's Key Development Areas: ICC-A is directly responsible for development projects in India, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Cambodia, Philippines and the Andaman Islands through 6 Key Developmental Areas:
- Food Security
- Health
- Learning
- Economic Development
- Building Relationships
- Community Infrastructure
Food Security: Lack of good food leads to poor nutrition, stunted physical growth, low immunity, susceptibility to disease and, too many times, death. Our communities are trained in crop improvements, market gardening, growing orchards, organics, composting, mulching, soil conservation, water containment, dry season management, reforestation and marketing of their goods. This equips them to become self-sufficient in producing wholesome, nutritious food all year round, year after year.

Health: We take a holistic approach to the health of our children. Their physical, mental, emotional, spiritual & social well-being is vital if children are to realise their full potential and become contributing citizens in their communities. Our health programs include training in nutrition, hygiene, first aid, curative and preventable healthcare, mental health and depression, AIDS awareness and prevention, and body awareness education. Sickness and disease is common and death is expected far too early and often. ICC children are being empowered to overcome this reality and live healthy, long, productive lives.
Learning: To build in a child the capacity to contribute to the future development of their communities and to prevent them from a life of poverty, they must be able to access training in basic learning and life skills. The learning programs for our children, both girls and boys, are functional literacy and numeracy skills, vocational training and basic education that empowers a deprived child to be able to access resources and opportunities that are available to other children. Through these programs our children have the opportunity to realise their full potential and can more effectively determine their own futures. In turn, they will then transfer their skills to others and help provide lasting solutions to poverty.
Economic Development: Gifts are temporary and, alone, only serve to keep people in poverty. Work, however, brings dignity and self worth to people and economic and social benefits to individuals and their community. Micro enterprise development and training, agricultural training, animal husbandry and vocational skills training are all programs in which our children are educated in work ethic and skill building. Environmental sustainability is always considered. |

Building Relationships: Being involved in ICC, Australia gives sponsors a unique and direct opportunity to build a brighter future for and develop relationships with the worldīs poor. The relationships that are built between sponsors, the children and ICC Australia, will always have the best interests of the children in mind. They will aim to develop the concept of global community, will work towards creating a more equitable world and will help destitute children to reach their full potential. We keep sponsors informed through newsletters, cultural information, progress reports and letters from the children. Our sponsorīs commitment to build relationships is shown through financial contributions, letter writing, sending gifts for celebrations or maybe even visiting the child.
Community Infrastructure: For the children to be able to access the development processes available to them, they need to live in healthy, safe environments. We enable our communities to construct vital infrastructure that provides clean drinking water, housing, septic systems, sanitation, solar power, roads, table drains, land purchases, libraries and learning centres.
ICC's Funding: Our child-centred programs are funded mainly through child sponsorship and project donations. ICC gives individuals the means to directly help orphan and abandoned children - to empower them to help themselves!
Becoming involved: You can be an active part of this process by sponsoring a child or by sponsoring a development project, becoming a volunteer or a representative for ICC in your area and through prayer. |
