International Children's Care (Australia) Incorporated is a Christian international development organisation based in Australia that raises funds and works with international partners to alleviate poverty and build a brighter future for destitute children in developing countries.
How We Fulfil Our Mission
International Children's Care (Australia) Incorporated (ICC Aus) works with local partners in a number of countries including Sri Lanka, Thailand, Cambodia, The Philippines, and China. We partner with local organisations that focus on child-related issues in poor communities. The local partners work to improve the well-being of children in their communities and improve their chance of a safe and healthy life through development initiatives in health, education, housing, agriculture, and microfinance.
ICC Australia's international partners work with their communities and local authorities to ensure that children suffering loss or separation from parents due to social or health problems, natural disaster, or political unrest are provided with appropriate housing, education and medical services.
Families that are trapped in poverty are offered opportunities to improve their situation through micro-enterprise or short-term family support. In extreme situations where no family or existing community structure is available, orphaned or abandoned children are provided with holistic care in a Children's Village or community established for that purpose by our local partners. The services and opportunities available in these communities, such as education, health and micro-finance are then made available to other families and children in the broader community.
What Makes ICC Australia Different?
ICC Aus is a small organisation with low overheads and we target issues specifically affecting children living in destitute situations. While targeting global issues is best done by large organisations and governments, we are committed to tackling problems at the local level through local organisations involving local people. These organisations and people know the problems and generally know how to solve them. We just need to provide the resources.
The Problems We Address
The child-related problems our partners target include:
ICC Aus is committed to a range of solutions to the problems of child safety and protection and strongly believes that the best place for a child to live and develop is within a family. When their family support fails (through sickness, death or abandonment) the extended family is the next best level of care. When there is no extended family, the local community is a familiar place where the child may be secure if another family can be located to care for the child. Our partners work with local authorities to ensure that the best option is secured for affected children and if no viable option can be found, our partners provide a home in a family-style community centre or children's village.
